- Eén van de weinige draagbare radio's die ook nog een cassettedek hebben en dus interessant voor wie nog (veel) cassettes wil draaien.
CD gedeelte biedt voldoende mogelijkheden.
Afstemming op gewenste zenders verloopt vlot.
Klankkwaliteit voldoet voor dit formaat van toestel.
Audioingang kan pluspunt zijn: microfooningang?
Naar mijn gevoel correcte prijs-kwaliteitverhouding.

- Ruis bij ontvangst zwakkere zenders omdat enkel in stereo kan ontvangen worden en niet omgeschakeld kan worden naar mono.
Schakelaar "Megabass" geeft nauwelijks hoorbaar resultaat. Een wat meer uitgebreide toonregeling laag - midden - hoog zou de klankkwaliteit ten goede . Dit is mogelijk te veel gevraagd in deze prijsklasse.

- I bought this as an Xmas for my sister, who lives in a small flat and had stressed that she wanted something small and easily portable. She also wanted a machine which would play her old cassesttes, and that's becoming hard to find these days.
I already owned the larger top-of-range Sony CFD-F10L, which has great sound and build quality, so I had confidence in buying another Sony item "blind" based on many positive online reviews for this smaller player which cost around half the price of mine.
On the positive side, it's much smaller and lighter than my own machine - 2 kg versus 5.5 kg - so that met my sister's needs. It was also fairly simple to use, though the display screen is pretty small.
I'm not the best person to judge the sound quality of a basic machine like this, as I have a high-end hi-fi separates system. But the midrange and treble performance was quite acceptable, and the stereo separation is also fair, given the small distance between the two speakers. - Bad Points
- The one downside of this unit is the dreadful lack of bass response. I don't know how the brochure writer had the nerve to describe the speakers as "full range", as that's just not true - I doubt there's any response below 100 Hz.
There's a "megabass" button, but frankly Sony should be ashamed of boasting about this feature on the box, as it's just a joke. In reality the two settings are "no bass" and "virtually no bass". My own unit is about 30% larger, but has 5 speakers and excellent bass performance, so it's disappointing that Sony didn't make more effort to get a bit more technology into the SO-5 to give it some proper low end.

- bought these for my children (7yr & 9yrs). they are just the right size and weight so it is sturdy but can be carried. They are a good size to fit on a shelf ....Would have bought one for myself but i already have another Sony product. Not the cheapest on the market but we have had cheap ones in the past and the casettes just get chewed up and the CD stalls.
