- Plaka for eating out and shopping, easy to pick up the X95 bus from the airport to the main Sq and costs 5 euros per person each way. Buy two tickets at the airport (as they do not do a return ticket) this will save money and time on your return journey.
The hop on hop of bus covers most of Athens and is an easy and cheep way to cover all the sightseeing whislt saving the feet and as a bonus they will stamp your ticket for a second day fee if you ask. Which makes it very good value. - Bad Points
- Due to the present financial situation Athens does have a lot of beggers these days. Though they do not cause any undue problems, also for the same reason some previously nice areas are a little neglected now. None the less this is a city well worth visiting and is very safe.

- The historic monuments and quite helpful friendly people.
The transport system was surprisingly efficient and good value - Bad Points
- The quality of modern architecture is really poor not to mention the constant beggars. Generally it was an unpleasant dirty chaotic city and I wouldn't go back.

- There was a general strike, so throughout our stay we could not see the Parthenon or any place of interest as all was closed. Even the Metro was on strike.

- Athens is a fascinating city to visit especially if you have an interest in antiquities and archealogy. The sites are second to none. Lots of good ,inexpensive restaurants and good shopping.
- Bad Points
- At the moment, becuase of the civil unrest and economic situation, there are strikes almost every day and you don't know in advance if you will have access to the museums,archealogical sites or public transport.
